The Highveld Lions were victorious after beating the Titans by 30 runs in the final of the South African T20 at the Wanderes on Sunday. They showed no fear against the tough Titans and kept their heads up high during the pressurised final.
The Highveld Lions won the toss and decided to bat first and
scored an average total of 155 for 5 wickets after 20 overs.
The young stunner Quintin Decock scoring 44 and the experienced Neil
Mckenzie smashing a stylish 39 were the main contributors to the Lions total
score. Considering the total not being such a mammoth target, the supporters
were weary of their team not having enough runs on the board once again.
However, the last final they played at the Wanderes against the Sydney Sixers in
the CLT20 competition they had scored a low total of 121 runs and lost the game
by 10 wickets.

Nevertheless, the Titans began their innings with maintaining a
solid 40 runs off 30 balls for no wicket. Compliments to the skipper Henry
Davids scoring 14 and Heino Kuhn scraping 19 runs, a ball later the skipper
Davids was caught by the third man. After this fall of wicket the run rate
dropped and the game slowed down for the Titans. Next in action, Aaron Phangiso
magnificently took the wickets of Kuhn and AB de Villiers who scored 4. The
pressure was on Herchelle Gibbs as he headed in to bat for his new team. With
Gibbs knocking a significant 22 runs, Farhaan Behardien bowled lbw for 6 runs.
The ball was suddenly in the Lions court as the Titans were 87 for the loss of
five wickets. It all seemed downhill for the Titans as Roelof Van De Merwe was
dismissed two balls later. The Titans still showed faith as Albie Morkel and
David Wiese had smashed a spectacular 35 off 20 balls. But Wiese was soon
bowled out after a destructive 21 off 13 balls. This left the Titans with a
weak total of 125 all out.

Aaron Phangiso, Hardus Viljoen Chris Morris, Sohail Tanvir and
Imran Tahir all acquired two wickets apiece for the Lions. After the last wicket
fell, the celebrations began and the Highveld Lions could finally please their
home supporters with an outstanding
victory.

Even though the Highveld Lions claimed a lavish victory over the
Nashua Titans, both teams qualify to compete in the profitable Champions League
T20 2013.
